As part of our social disadvantage program PEOPLE are supporting a Bristol based project KBW (Keep Bristol Warm) to help Bristol's street sleepers stay warm throughout the year You can find more information on this great project by visiting www.facebook.com/keepbristolwarm |
C.O.A.S.T (Community Outreach Advisory Support Team) The programme is a free service available to all communities, offering advice which focuses on benefits, budgeting, housing and general support in any capacity. This is a unique community outreach service that is easily accessible and requires no appointments. From the initial meeting, we are able to offer continual support through the PEOPLE charity This is an informal service which gives tailored support to each individual’s needs. |
Community Giving
PEOPLE work closely with the local community and those in need. We often provide free care packages to street homeless which includes things like warm clothing, toothbrushes and toothpaste and hygiene materials. PEOPLE run a Coats For Christmas project each December where warm coats, hats and gloves are donated freely to street homeless or any member of society that is in need. We also run on a yearly basis another project entitled Baskets For Babies, moses baskets include such items as clothing, baby equipment etc are given for free to young families
PEOPLE run a charity shop in Midsomer Norton
The Midsomer Norton branch also doubles as our head office, this is where we meet our beneficiaries on a daily basis and where we mainly hold assessments for our housing provision. All finances raised through the charity outlet goes directly back into the charity fund to help keep our houses in a good livable condition and also helps maintain our shop and enables us to continue to be able to supply good quality, low cost goods to our loyal customers
We also run a collection and delivery service for donations that are too big for customers to bring in their cars.
We do not charge for collections but deliveries carry a charge between £10.00 - £15.00 depending on location, anything over 5 miles will be charged the higher rate, this money helps fuel the van and pay for it's insurance and for any repairs that may need to take place. Our collection and delivery service runs within a 10 mile radius of the shop in Midsomer Norton and takes place every Wednesday (this can sometimes vary depending on driver availability)
The shops can take electrical items, these are tested for electrical safety by a qualified electrician which are then certificated to say they are safe for re-sale and use, we never sell any electrical item that is not safe
We do not take washing machines or electric cookers as we are unable to test these
PEOPLE run a no-refund policy. Understandably, as we are a charity, offering refunds can dramatically effect our income, we are non-profit, self supported and independent
Unlike many other high street charity shops, we are not supported by larger agencies, we are two members of staff that rely on volunteers to help us in our shop who give their time for free to help a good cause
While we try to provide high quality items and electricals we have to remind customers that all items are sold as seen,
you are encouraged to make sure your item is fit for your purpose before purchase.
